THE 2nd SESSION of YOUTH TREKKERS WANTED Sponsored by the National Youth Commission, the "2nd Youth Trekkers Wanted" activity is underway until February 28, 2010. The activity is open to all young adults 18 to 30 years old from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Macao who enjoy traveling and photography, as well as being creative and sharing experiences with others. Eligible participants are encouraged to plan a Taiwan travel itinerary that is at least 10 days long and highlights a particular theme. The 15 best entries (three entries from each country or area) will be selected for an award of US$2,000 each to help fund a dream trip to Taiwan. All entrants are also eligible to take advantage of discount airfares to Taiwan on China Airlines. Winners also will have a chance to win an all expenses paid five-day, four-night trip for two to Youth Travel Spots in Taiwan so they can share their travel experiences with all of their young friends. The NYC is sponsoring the "2nd Youth Trekkers Wanted" activity to encourage more young international backpackers to visit Taiwan, take advantage of in-depth tourism opportunities, and interact with the society, culture and environment of Taiwan. The event aims to encourage the recording and sharing of youth travel experiences from the perspective of youth travelers using the NYC's youth travel service network and visiting NYC youth travel destinations in Taiwan. Related travel service items include the Youth Travel Card with over 700 special travel offers, free use of the NYC Digital Tour Buddy (mobile phone) service, budget-priced accommodations, TR Passes, and the "Tour Buddy" free guide service to ensure a hassle-free visit to Taiwan. Between February and May last year, 11 participants in the "1st Youth Trekkers Wanted" event carried out their winning travel itineraries, taking back fond memories of their discoveries in Taiwan. Kaori Hiramatsu, a young Japanese visitor with an interest in international youth cultural exchange, came to Taiwan to experience the daily life of local students. In addition to visiting different schools and interacting with students, she spoke to classes about schools and student life in Japan. Another winner was Chan Lip-ming, a youth teacher from Malaysia with a good knowledge of Taiwan's travel hot spots from four years as a student here. During his trip to Taiwan this time, he used the Youth Travel Card to visit community education organizations around Taiwan and enjoy the special travel offers available to card users. The experience earned a thumbs up from the Malaysian youth, who described his trip to Taiwan as a "bargain and a blast!" South Korean An Yun-Cheol, a university student and experienced backpacker, took a 25-day bicycle tour around Taiwan on a professional road bike. In addition to circling the island, the energetic visitor cycled across the Central Range, later sharing his travel stories with backpacker friends back home. Luk Ka-Yan from Hong Kong also took a bicycle tour of Taiwan, exploring the local culture with visits to the cities, towns, and out-of-the-way corners of the island on a folding back, using train, bus and boat transportation as well. The Hong Kong native also made many local friends on the way. Belinda Lin from Singapore and Liu Ting-ting from Macau both arrived from compact geographically small cities to discover the culture and natural beauty of Taiwan. Belinda is a fan of the Taiwan rock group Sodagreen and Ting-ting fell in love with the scenic offshore islands of Taiwan. Both were confident that, anyone who visits Taiwan will take home lasting memories. Until February 28, 2010, young adults aged 18 to 30 years old from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Macao are invited to imagine and share their dream trip to Taiwan, with a chance to make that dream come true.
